Fitter Faster Workout 1

This Move-For-Joy session is a modification of Coach Dick Hannula's "fitter is faster" motto. At 85 Coach Hannula was still coaching the University of Puget Sound swim team (he coached until he was 90 years old). One day before practice, Coach Hannula walked on deck and said, "fit is fast. Fitter is faster and fittest is fastest." Every day I do 300 sit-ups and 200 pushups. You should do the same thing if you want to swim fast. Then he turned and walked off the deck.

 
 
 

By the end of this 17-minute workout, you will have done 100 pushups and 300 core exercises. We make it fun. Each exercise is different. It's quick but really does get your metabolism burning and your whole body toned and in shape. 

 

Make it Playful With Music

Make your Move-For-Joy session more fun with music. Links to a few of my favorite playlists are below. Use mine or create your own.

  • Remember, you can switch out any cardio/HIIT interval for a dance party--your body can burn up to 300 calories/hour dancing--so if burpees aren't your thing, bust a move. 

  • Make this Move-For-Joy session your own by speeding up or slowing down your pace to the beat of the music. Varying your speed of abs or lunges or whatever move makes it more fun and the variety keeps it interesting. 

  • Do your own favorite move. If something I'm doing in the video doesn't work for your body, do something else. As long as you are moving you are doing your body good!
